Watch: New International Trailer For 'This Is The End' Does It Scarface Style

This Is The EndIt’s either some brass balls or just a flat out bad decision, but with Sony positioning Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s let’s-make-a-movie-with-our-friends effort “This Is The End” for the same weekend as “Man Of Steel,” they are essentially hoping that many folks will forgo Superman for some dumb laughs. Granted, it drops on the Wednesday so the comedy will have a slight head start, but will it build enough steam to make a decent counter-programming choice?

Well, a new international trailer has arrived to make the case, and showing off even more gags from the movie is running the risk of putting all the funniest moments online before it even hits theaters. The premise is simple: during a party at James Franco’s house, the apocalypse comes, and the Apatow-brood have to survive. Playing heightened versions of themselves, that’s primarily where the laughs for this one come from, so if you’re not really down with these dudes, it may not be your cup of tea. But there are more than enough familiar faces popping up that you’re bound to like at least somebody in here.

Either way, Sony seem to be happy with the end result, with The Wrap reporting that the studio has acquired movie rights to the novel “Sell Out,” by former “Saturday Night Live” writer Simon Rich, for Rogen and Goldberg to produce. The wacky story “follows a fictionalized version of Rich as he meets his great-great-grandfather Herschel, who was preserved in brine for 100 years after a pickle factory accident and is baffled by his descendant Simon’s lifestyle as a script doctor in hipster-filled Brooklyn.” Another meta, inside-industry-meets-genre-filled-story, it seems.

“This Is The End” boards up the windows on June 12th.
