Now that the hype surrounding the release of Adele's “Skyfall” theme song has been sufficiently met, the questions shift to the Sam Mendes-directed 007 film itself, and whether Daniel Craig can pull off the 23rd installment. However, after a strong critical reaction resulted from its first press screenings, and with the official UK release next week, a tense new clip — along with two TV spots – have arrived to erase “Quantum of Solace” from James Bond fan's memories.
Showcasing a high-stakes moment with Bond brawling atop a moving train, the clip features MI6 agent Eve (Naomie Harris) under pressure from Q (Judi Dench) to take out his opponent via precise sniper shot. No plot details are revealed other than an interesting ellipsis the footage provides at the end, but if nothing else it shows Mendes' sure (and thankfully steady) hand in building tension shining through, with any lingering doubts about the “American Beauty” director vanishing instantly.
Also alongside the clip are two quick TV spots prior to the film's UK release on October 26th (via Commander Bond), but if general audiences take to it as well as we did when we reviewed it last week, noting Mendes has “found a confident new identity for the franchise — not afraid of its past, but not chasing its competitors or being scared of the future either,” they certainly won't need any extra enticement to head to the cinema. With a stellar cast that includes Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Berenice Marlohe, and Ben Whishaw, the November 9th US release of “Skyfall” can't come soon enough.
