The common complaint about sequels that don’t work is that they merely carbon copy the first successful movie with less satisfying results. But “Cars” aside, Pixar has shown they can up their game each time out within a series, at least as far as “Toy Story” goes. But with “Monsters University,” instead of going forward, they’re going back to where it all began. But in doing so, can they recreate the magic that was “Monsters Inc.“?
If this new trailer is anything to go by…possibly, yes. We’ve had our doubts about taking Mike and Sulley back to college, but it seems the folks at Pixar went pretty wild with the idea and really conjured up a pretty inviting little world, complete with new monsters and fun riffs on the clichés of the college experience. This might be the most fun spot we’ve seen yet for the movie, one that shows off a lot of great design, some real heart and charming comedy. And isn’t that all one can ask for with this?
