There may be snow on the ground, and the daylight hours are short, but believe us when we say spring is around the corner. And nothing says spring like the smell of the grass on the field and sound of a baseball hitting the bat. After watching the new trailer for the Jackie Robinson biopic "42," you might be eager to start oiling your glove.
Last fall, an already promising-looking trailer was dropped, and this new one suggests that the film, if not an Oscar contender, will at the very least be an energetic and well-told sports biopic. Written and directed by Brian Helgeland, newcomer Chadwick Boseman takes on the role of Robinson, the first star player to break the color barrier in Major League Baseball, facing enormous controversy and threats to his safety. The supporting cast is pretty solid, with Harrison Ford growling his way through as supporting Brooklyn Dodger exec Branch Rickey, Nicole Beharie as Robinson's wife, and folks like Christopher Meloni, John G. McGinley and more popping up.
"42" rounds the bases on April 12th. Watch the trailer below, followed by a featurette about the making of the film with more footage.
