With a sequel already planned, HBO is showing a lot of confidence in Ryan Murphy‘s upcoming feature-length drama, “The Normal Heart.” And who could blame them? The cast alone is pretty first rate with Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Matt Bomer, Taylor Kitsch and Jim Parsons all on board, the story is stirring, and so far, it looks like it’ll be the highlight on the network this spring, certainly as evidenced by this new teaser trailer.
Based on the acclaimed play by Larry Kramer, “The Normal Heart” tells the story of the onset of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s. It will highlight gay activists and their allies in the medical community that fought to expose the truth about the burgeoning epidemic to a city in denial. Again, this looks like some pretty powerful stuff and we’re betting that before it hits HBO, Ryan Murphy and co. will walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival.
“The Normal Heart” debuts on HBO on May 25th. Watch below. [EW]
