It was over a decade ago, so it might be easy to forget just how drastic the impact the Beltway Snipers had not just on the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area, but the nation as a whole. For nearly a month, it dominated the news while folks along Interstate 95 feared for their lives, thinking they might be the next person to be randomly picked off. And while there have been a couple of movies about those events, none seem to have the electricity of “Blue Caprice.”
We debuted the first poster yesterday and now, the first trailer for the film is here. Now we’re really wishing we had made a bit more time for it at the Sundance Film Festival back in January. Isaiah Washington leads the cast in what looks like a pretty powerful turn as the man who orchestrated the killings and formed a bizarre bond with a young man (Tequan Richmond) who helped him commit the crimes. This looks like a pretty solid effort all around, one that trades in atmosphere and dread instead of a sensational tabloid-style depiction.
Directed by Alexandre Moors and co-starring Joey Lauren Adams and Tim Blake Nelson, “Blue Caprice” will open in select theaters on September 13th and on demand and iTunes September 17th. Watch below.
