After 13 years and seven installments, things are finally winding down for Harry Potter. The final novel in the fantasy series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” was released in 2007, and now the last of the film adaptations is in the can and set to be released in 2 parts later this year and next. Part 1 will hit theatres this November 19th, followed by Part 2 on July 15th, 2011.
‘Hallows’ follows wizard friends Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint), as they find and destroy the source of immortality for Harry’s nemesis, Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), leading to his and Harry’s final confrontation, where one must die so that the other can live. For the Potter reader, a bad ass adventure for sure, but even those not familiar with the books will find that director David Yates’ interpretations really have legs to stand on as smart, entertaining films. The Potter adaptations, as a whole, have had their hits and misses, but Yates, who was behind both parts of ‘Hallows’, as well as movies 5 and 6, really seems to be taking the series out on a high note (another highlight and real turning point for the films was Alfonso Cuaron’s contribution “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” back in 2004). With help from lead actors who have matured in skill over the years, as well as some vastly improved special effects, Yates has brought a more cinematic quality to the ‘Potter’ films by not belaboring every plot detail from the novels, and ‘Hallows’ despite its 2 parts, appears to be no exception.
