After counting it down for the past few days, Marvel has finally lifted the curtain on the new trailer for “Iron Man 3,” so strap in and get ready for the ride. And you know what? You probably won’t be shocked to learn that this likely won’t be Robert Downey Jr.‘s or Tony Stark’s last ride at the superhero rodeo.
“I have the feeling that the story that we have developed for ‘Iron Man 3‘ actually concluded a trilogy, while [also] leaving the door open to a fourth,” writer and director Shane Black told French Premiere via Empire. “I had a lot of discussions on this subject: ‘Is that the last ‘Iron Man‘ for Robert?’ Something tells me that it will not be the case, and will be seen in a fourth, or fifth… But I can be a little excited.”
And while fans can speculate away at just how many more movies RDJ has left in his Marvel contract and/or how much money will be left in his driveway when the inevitable time comes for him sign up for more, for now fans can rest assured that Black and the first writer hired for “Iron Man 3,” Drew Pearce, didn’t butt heads when it came to finalizing the script.
“When Marvel hires a director, the script of the film is generally already written. Except that they had someone who is a writer at the base. This was a problem at first, because they had already hired Drew Pearce to write ‘Iron Man 3.’ I was like, ‘But I do not need this Drew Pearce, what’s the story?'” Black admitted, laughing. “Today I am not only a fan of Drew Pearce, but I’ve also become a friend of his. He came [to my] home every day… brainstorming from morning to night. The script was really written for four hands. [It’s an] excellent collaboration because they had already hired Drew Pearce to write.”
Okay, so back to the trailer. Did it meet your expectations? And holy shit, was that Hulkbuster Armor? Watch below, and then take a look at the new lo-rez poster that has been making the rounds as well as some newish photos. “Iron Man 3” opens on May 3rd.
