Watch: New Trailer For Judd Apatow's 'This Is 40' Starring Paul Rudd & Leslie Mann

nullIt's spinoff/sidequel week over at Universal. With "The Bourne Legacy" hitting theaters on Friday, the studio will be using the opportunity to get audiences ready for another film that will be taking some old characters, adding some new ones, and putting them in a fresh movie to create something new.

A brand-new trailer has landed for Judd Apatow's "This Is 40," a not quite follow-up to "Knocked Up" that shifts the focus to Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann's Pete and Debbie. It seems with each successive picture, Apatow has started reflecting more and more on his own life, with the 44-year-old director this time setting the story against the backdrop of, you guessed it, turning 40. That landmark of sorts puts Pete and Debbie's relationship into a centrifuge around which everything else swirls and begins to change, for better or for worse. Overall, this all looks like stuff right in Apatow's usually enjoyable wheelhouse (even if the drug sequence seems heavily borrowed from "Knocked Up"). And we also learn from a lingerie-wearing Megan Fox that her boobs are real. Good work, marketing department.

With an extensive supporting cast that includes Charlyne Yi, Jason Segel, Albert Brooks, Melissa McCarthy, Lena Dunham, Robert Smigel, John Lithgow and Chris O'Dowd, a score from Jon Brion, and a release date right at the end of the year during awards season territory… could Apatow's dramedy get some Academy love? "This is 40" opens on December 21st. Watch below. And in case you're wondering, the song at the beginning of the trailer is The Strokes "You Only Live Once" and at the end, George Harrison's "What Is Life." Kind of apropos, no? Btw, there's also a LIVE Q&A with Judd Apatow at 10:30am PT that you can watch here later today.
