At this point, the question is not whether "The Loft" is bad. The question is now just how bad the movie is. Shot in the summer of 2011, the film was originally snapped up by Warner Bros. shingle Dark Castle in 2012. It was given a tentative 2013 release but that didn’t materialize, and then the movie was punted over to Universal, who at one point planned to bring it to theaters on August 29th this year. That didn’t happen either, with the studio pushing it back in June. But it seems like something’s happening with a release, as a new international trailer for "The Loft" is here.
Starring Karl Urban, James Marsden, Eric Stonestreet, Wentworth Miller, Matthias Schoenaerts, Isabel Lucas, Rhona Mitra, and Elaine Cassidy, the thriller is a remake of a 2008 Belgian film about a bunch of bros who rent a loft for their extramarital affairs. But their sweet deal goes bad when a dead body turns up, clues are left in Latin, and everyone starts turning on each other. So yeah, standard potboiler stuff and it looks like director Erik Van Looy, who helmed the original, doesn’t really elevate his material all that much, even with this all-star cast.
"The Loft" will apparently now open on January 23, 2015. Watch below.
