Watch: New Trailer For 'Monsters: The Dark Continent,' The Sequel To Gareth Edwards' 'Monsters'

Monsters: The Dark Continent

There has been a lot of talk this week about “Godzilla,” and in particular, how the big budget monster movie actually doesn’t have all that much of the titular lizard in the actual movie. At least not until the third act, and even then… But for those that saw Gareth Edwards‘ debut film “Monsters,” it’s no surprise, as that low budget thriller also kept the creature at bay (though with arguably more satisfying results once it was revealed). Anyway, a sequel to “Monsters” is on the way, but Edwards is only executive producing with a whole fleet of people ready to bring more scares.

Tom Green (“Misfits,” “Blackout“) gets behind the camera for this Jay Basu penned story which now reorients the focus to the Middle East, where the U.S. military is confronting another “infected zone.” And basically, it’s a lot of monsters emerging from the sand with their long tentacle-like arms grabbing what they can as the soldiers try to survive. Johnny Harris (“Snow White & The Huntsman,” “Welcome To The Punch“), Sam Keeley (“What Richard Did“) and Joe Dempsie (“Skins,” “Game Of Thrones“) lead the cast, and will act appropriately scared.

No release date yet, but this one is expected to drop later this year. [Flicks And Bits]
