It's not exactly a surprise that the guy who created a serial killer tire movie "Rubber," and turned a lost dog into a surreal journey for his upcoming "Wrong," has gone ahead and put together yet another oddball goof. Quentin Dupieux keeps churning out the strange and weird, and his latest, "Wrong Cops" is yet another dip into the oddball. But wait, haven't you heard of this one for a while now? Well, yes…
Dupieux is courting some kind of multi-chapter, online release system for this effort that sees him shooting each section as financing comes in. That plan seems to be coupled with festival appearances, because last spring he showed off 14 minutes (or essentially, the first chapter) at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight, and now at Sundance, he'll be showing the first 45 minutes. Anyway, the story is spread across three chapters, features an eclectic array of talent including Marilyn Manson, Eric Wareheim and Grace Zabriskie, and more, and we're not going to bother to try and summarize it. Seriously, just watch it.
Three chapters are done so far, likely comprising what folks will see in Park City, but no word yet on how many more remain or when this movie will actually be finished. But the bizarro element will likely scare up enough interest that Dupieux will manage to get it to get it done. Anyway, see how peculiar, deadpan funny and flat-out deranged the whole thing is below.
