The one thing that has always bothered this writer about the whole idea of "The Iron Lady" is that Margaret Thatcher isn't exactly the most sympathetic of politicians. In fact, in the eyes of many, she's one of the worst Prime Ministers Britain has ever had (unless you're a hardline conversative, in which case she's a wet dream). So, we're still not quite what to make to "The Iron Lady," and this new trailer doesn't help.
Starring Meryl Streep in a wig and new accent, which will probably get her yet another Oscar nomination, the film will track her career from her teenage years to her rise through politics to becoming the hated head of state. Which is fine. But it's a hard to care about the rise of a woman whose politics were so distasteful (at least to us). Then again, we never thought we'd give two shits about a movie about the Queen, but Stephen Frears and Helen Mirren proved us wrong. But Phyllida Lloyd is no Frears and with only the musical "Mamma Mia!" to her name (and a TV movie, "Gloriana"), we're not really sure what she can do with this. Also, is it just us, or is that music in the trailer aping The Who's "Teenage Wasteland"? (But just slowed down).
Anyway, we'll soon see the results. "The Iron Lady" rolls into theaters on December 16th. [Apple embed via ComingSoon]
