Romance isn’t easy, but what if you had a chance to do over that first date, or had a second attempt at a first impression, or even that first time in the sack? That’s the central premise of “About Time,” the upcoming romantic comedy from the man who knows a few things about complicated love, Richard Curtis (“Love Actually,” “Four Weddings And A Funeral“).

Domnhall Gleeson stars as the man who has the incredible gift of time travel, and of all the things he could use that power for, he decides that pursuing Rachel McAdams will be his top priority. We don’t blame him. Accordingly, a variety of comic and romantic mishaps and miscommunications ensue, with the overriding message being that you can fundamentally change who you are, but perhaps you can strive to be the best you can be. Or something. It’s an interesting conceit, and we’ll be curious to see if it can sustain the running time of a whole movie.

In an interesting sidenote, Curtis recently told Empire that this might be the last thing he gets behind the camera for. “This probably will be the last film I will direct… I don’t know. Just a feeling… just a feeling. It feels like a summing-up to me. We’ll see how things turn out,” he said. Indeed, we will.

“About Time” opens on September 6th in the U.K. and November 1st in the U.S. [Bleeding Cool]
