With "Deadpool" still carving up the box office, "Allegiant" set to arrive soon, and "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" on the horizon, if you want franchise spectacle, it’s not in short supply. However, if you’re looking for something cut from wholly original cloth, then you might want to track down "Midnight Special."
Making his major studio debut, director Jeff Nichols ("Shotgun Stories," "Mud," "Take Shelter") brings together Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst, Adam Driver, Sam Shepard, and Jaeden Lieberher for the story of a young boy, whose special gifts see him viewed as both a messiah and weapon, with his father and family doing all they can to protect him from outside forces. Here’s the synopsis:
Roy (Michael Shannon) is a father desperate to protect his uniquely gifted, eight-year-old son in this genre-defying thriller which proves once again that director Jeff Nichols is one of the most compelling storytellers of our time. As father and son go on the run, an intense chase ensues as they are hunted down by a mysterious cult and a clandestine government agency – the outcome of which could bring about a world-changing event.
"Midnight Special" opens on March 18th. Check out the new U.K. trailer and two clips below.
