A movie set against the backdrop of the music industry today seems a bit… out of place. Any artist of real worth or integrity doesn’t want or need the corporate machine, with plenty of healthy indie avenues to go where their talent will be rewarded and they won’t see their money disappear into a black hole of accounting. But for the sake of “Begin Again,” the music industry is still a thing, and one down-and-out producer hopes to help a songwriter make it big.
Starring Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley, the film follows Greta, a British ex-pat living in New York City and dating Adam Levine (who plays a famous pop star not unlike Adam Levine). But she’s got songs of her own, and one night at an open mic, a recently fired music producer named Dan hears her sultry tones and see salvation. What happens next? Two lives coming together… in song! Yeah, it’s a bit cornball and we weren’t exactly huge fans of this one, but we suppose there’s an earnest charm some will dig.
“Begin Again” opens on July 4th. Watch below. [Vlicious!]
