If early reviews are any indication — including our own — "The Avengers" is the greatest summer blockbuster to come along in ages. And while many other on the Playlist staff are equally effusive in their praise surrounding the superhero smash-up, this writer remains cautious. The numerous clips which have arrived in advance of the film have been…clunky…and that's no less true of the latest one to land below.
This time around, we get a scene with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) talking about some thing that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) wants him to do involving gamma radiation. This writer is still not convinced by the tone of the picture seen in the snippets so far. However, that being said, these are all out of context and in the flow of the movie it could work much better. Also, "Cabin In The Woods" showed that on the page, Whedon is more than capable of juggling comedy, action and a variety of other elements with ease. And by most accounts, this one moves pretty deftly with the humor, stakes and the set pieces you expect from a summer movie.
