Peter Bogdanovich loves his screwball comedy and for his latest film, “She’s Funny That Way,” produced by spiritual protégés Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach, he reached back into the drawer for an old screenplay he wrote ages ago with former wife Louise Stratten. In fact, it was announced in the mid-90s, then called “Squirrel To The Nuts” and was rewritten in 1999 for the late John Ritter, according to our interview with Bogdanovich last year. “Then he passed away tragically and it was put on the back burner. Then I met Owen [Wilson]… it’s hard to find an actor that can play comedy, particularly this type of comedy which is slightly screwball, slightly not. Owen, I just personally really love him as a person, and that part seemed perfect for him. He’s one of the few actors around who has the old movie star quality. He’s got a personality.”
Starring quite the cast – Wilson is joined by Imogen Poots, Kathryn Hahn, Will Forte, Rhys Ifans, Jennifer Aniston, Cybill Shepherd and Lucy Punch among many others — the movie centers on a married Broadway director who falls for a prostitute-turned-actress and works to help her advance her career (here’s our review from the 2014 Venice Film Festival last fall).
We’ve already seen two clips and the trailer, and now a third clip from the comedy has arrived. We also mentioned it in our feature: The 25 Best Films Of 2015 We’ve Already Seen. Clarius Entertainment will release the film on May 1st in limited release. Watch the new clip below.
