Even though his revenge western "The Hateful Eight" opens in less than two months, the current conversation around Quentin Tarantino only partially has something to do with his upcoming picture. Instead, the director has become the focal point of a new national conversation around police brutality, following Tarantino’s appearance and comments at a rally in New York City last week. Police organizations were outraged and what they perceived was the filmmaker equating them with "murderers" but Tarantino has refused to back down from what he said. And stopping by MSNBC‘s "All In With Chris Hayes," he explained in greater detail what he’s speaking out against.
“We were at a rally for that was dealing with unarmed people, mostly black and brown, who have been shot and killed — or beaten or strangled — by the police, and I was obviously referring to the people in those types of situations,” he explained, adding that in the cases of victims such as Eric Garner and Tamir Rice, “I actually do believe that they were murder.”
There have been some whispers that Harvey Weinstein is furious with Tarantino for pulling controversy around him just as the marketing push for "The Hateful Eight" should be gearing up, but the director insisted he had their support.
