Will Ferrell and Adam McKay hit Comic-Con this past weekend to promote their upcoming, raunchy teen comedy “The Virginity Hit” which they produced, and now we have our first look at the film in the shape of an extensive red-band trailer. And we have mixed feelings about it.
Besides seemingly giving every plot turn of the movie away, the film definitely seems to borrow liberally from some of the more notable sex comedies of late. There’s no denying comparisons to “American Pie,” “The 40 Year Old Virgin” and “Superbad” and the pube-trimming sequence is practically identical to the one we saw in “She’s Out Of My League” earlier this year. Even the characters seem stock, from the nebbish, nerdy virgin to his overweight, sarcastic friend.
That said, there does seem to be a larger than usual heart to the proceedings that we hope shines through in the finished film. “The Virginity Hit” opens on September 10th.
