Why the fuck not, right? After every other studio dropped trailers for “Hall Pass,” “No Strings Attached” and “Just Go With It” in the past 24 hours, why not one more? It seems like studio marketing executives never heard of audience fatigue, but whatever, you’re going to be seeing these trailers forever until they come out, and we totally understand if you get these all mixed up.
So, stop if you heard of this one before. “Friends With Benefits” centers on Dylan (Justin Timberlake) and Jamie (Mila Kunis) who are good friends and fuckbuddies but things become complicated when they decide to become romantically involved. So yes, it’s basically the exact same movie as “No Strings Attached.” Ok, this one did earn some brownie points with us for showing a woman getting immense pleasure from oral sex (though it remains to be seen if the MPAA will be cool with that), it does feature the always awesome Patricia Clarkson and it’s directed by Will Gluck who was behind the very charming and winning “Easy A” (though half and possibly more of that credit is due to Emma Stone‘s great performance). But otherwise, it seems like it’s hitting all the same beats as we’ve seen elsewhere and the only thing really red-band about that trailer are the f-bombs.
The film will bravely open on July 22, 2011 but who knows if by then, audiences will have tired of the same old story with “Hall Pass,” “No Strings Attached” and “Just Go With It” all coming out in January/February and potentially cannibalizing each other. Trailer after the jump.
