A traveling motorcycle stunt rider probably isn’t the best guy to pin the hopes of a stable family life around, but that’s the situation in which Romina (Eva Mendes) finds herself in “The Place Beyond The Pines.” Ryan Gosling‘s Luke has a good heart but a vagabond spirit, and the crushing reality of Romina’s pregnancy forces him to try and provide for his young son, even if those means are less than legal.
In this new clip from the film, we see Luke and Romina reunite on the fairgrounds where he does death-defying stunts as part of a sideshow. Even though it’s been a while since they last met, there is both a spark of hesitance and feeling there, as they rekindle past romance. But in Derek Cianfrance‘s movie, it’s the first step of a tale with tragic consequences that span years and decades, in ways the characters can’t possibly imagine.
Certainly one of the must-see movies of the month, “The Place Beyond The Pines” opens in New York and Los Angeles on March 29th, in select cities on April 5th and across the country on April 12th. Watch below.
