"From the director of ‘Taken‘ " says the trailer for "The Gunman," and it’s after only about five seconds of watching that you say, "No shit." A hazy mixture of that film and the basic concept of Bourne (secretive group with agents decides to shut down or something), Sean Penn channels his inner Liam Neeson for this one, which, god help us, we’re totally going to watch anyway. Why?
Well, somehow, this managed to get a decent cast with Javier Bardem, Ray Winstone, Idris Elba, and more in this flick that doesn’t seem to be much more than guys puffing their chests at each other until eventually Penn’s wife, or whatever, is taken and he has to rescue her. Bardem seems to be having a lot of fun overacting, but is also the only one showing any joy, with Penn’s grim, weary face carrying the rest of the movie, as he proudly displays his special set of kills. Obviously.
"The Gunman" opens on March 20th. Watch below.
