Plus One Final Look At Martin Scorsese's 'Hugo'
Mission Impossible Cruise Pegg Renner PattonWe thought that the summer was jam-packed in terms of the number of potential blockbusters, but the next few weeks, particularly in relation to last year's meagre holiday line-up, make July and August look like the dead months of January and February by comparison. Kicking off with the mammoth opening of "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Pt. 1" over the weekend, the next four weeks see no fewer than twelve prospective blockbusters landing in theaters, from family-friendly fare like "The Muppets" and "Arthur Christmas" to the darker-than-dark "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo."
As such, the marketing onslaught for all these films will continue for some time, and two of the more eagerly anticipated flicks for film fans have just sent out new glimpses at what they have to offer. First up is a new clip from "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol," the fourth in Tom Cruise's long-running espionage franchise, which, thanks to the presence of "The Incredibles" and "Ratatouille" director Brad Bird, shows every sign of reinvigorating a series that's been tired almost from the off.
We were a little underwhelmed by the more action-heavy clip that debuted last week, but the new one at Yahoo Movies, which leads directly into that, is far more promising. It shows Jeremy Renner's Brandt and Simon Pegg's Benji planning an elaborate break-in, and there's a lightness of touch here that's been somewhat lacking in "Mission Impossible" films to date, with a fun, comic chemistry between the two that bodes very well for the bits of the film where things aren't blowing up.
Meanwhile, we're only a day away from the opening of Martin Scorsese's "Hugo," but Yahoo has a new clip from that too, which displays some of the film's astonishing production design, as well as young leads Asa Butterfield and Chloe Grace Moretz. We're not quite blown away, but Paramount have been desperately trying to lure a younger audience to the film with the marketing material, and we're assured that the film has plenty of delights for an older audience. That film opens tomorrow, while "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" begins its IMAX run on December 16th, before going into wider release on December 21st.
