While television is now seen as fertile creative ground for filmmakers who can't find an opening in the franchise-heavy studio system, the commercial world is also an opportunity for a helmer to keep those movie making skills honed. And while we wait for Sofia Coppola to get her next feature film mounted — which may be about the Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch — her latest venture into advertising will tide us over for now.
The director has gotten behind the camera for the campaign for H&M's Marni collection, which features rising actress Imogen Poots ("Fright Night," "Jane Eyre," "Cracks") as the face of the line. The resulting minute-long commercial finds Coppola doing what she does, beautifully framing youth in all their reckless abandon. Filmed in Marrakech, the spot is largely a dream sequence in which Poots mingles at a pretty posh party that ends with a kiss in a swimming pool, all set to Roxy Music's "Avalon."
Of course, this isn't Coppola's first venture into the commercial world, having previously helmed spots for Miss Dior Cherie including one starring Natalie Portman. Anyhow, take a look below along with the making-of video. Bonus round: We've also included "LØV," the short film by Stephanie Di Giusto for the Vanessa Bruno fashion line starring Kate Bosworth.
