While I once dabbled with “Warcraft” way back in the day, that was before it became such a massive online phenomenon that Universal put forward some very significant dollars to bring the video game to life. And so far, the results have been pretty underwhelming, looking like “The Lord Of The Rings” or similar fantasy films, but in different CGI paint. And these first four clips, running about three minutes long, don’t do much to dispel that notion.

Step into the world of Azeroth where Ben Foster, Ben Schnetzer, Toby Kebbel, Rob Kazinsky and others toss around portentous dialogue, while the actions scenes look grand, but also exceedingly familiar. The whole affair seems exhausting already, and though likely very well realized by director Duncan Jones, there’s a sense we’ve seen this kind of thing a few times over already. Let’s just say that on my summer movie watching list, “Warcraft” is not near the top by any measure.
