With Gareth Edwards‘ “Godzilla” stomping into theaters next spring, we’re undoubtedly going to see Warner Bros. and Legendary start pumping the marketing machine soon. And today, it looks like a teaser trailer has leaked online, seemingly unfinished (there’s no credit block, only the above logo to close it off). So either someone has made a helluva great fan trailer, or someone in the marketing department is getting fired.
Two years ago, Comic-Con rattled with awe when the first teaser rocked those lucky enough to see it in San Diego, and this seems cut from the same cloth. It’s mostly a tone-setting piece with lots of destruction and bodies that feels less cartoony than “Pacific Rim,” coupled with a real sense of consequence and dread. And with an ominous quote by Manhattan Project participant J. Robert Oppenheimer over top, it’ll get the spine tingling.
Watch it while you can because this is probably getting yanked soon. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche and Sally Hawkins, “Godzilla” lands on May 16, 2014. [io9]
