Watch: The Evil Spirit Of Bughuul Haunts A New Family In The New Red Band Trailer For ‘Sinister 2’

Sinister 2In the original “Sinister,” Scott Derrickson’s lo-fi horror that was a surprise hit in the summer of 2013, true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke) discovers a box of home movies in his attic that puts his family in danger. In short, it unleashes the evil spirit of Bughuul and, well, as you can guess, it doesn’t end well for everyone.

Derickson may have hightailed it out of there for the sequel (he’s directing Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” instead), but he did stick around to executive produce the film and co-write the script with original “Sinister” scriptwriter C. Robert Cargill. And regardless of his exit behind the camera, the franchise scored a pretty solid filmmaker for part two, Ciaran Foy, who wowed SXSW audiences in 2012 with his indie psychological horror “Citadel.” “Sinister 2” centers on an entirely new family and stars Shannyn Sossamon, James Ransone, and Robert and Dartanian Sloan. Here’s the official synopsis:

The sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit horror movie. In the aftermath of the shocking events in “Sinister,” a protective mother (Shannyn Sossamon of “Wayward Pines”) and her 9-year-old twin sons (real-life twins Robert and Dartanian Sloan) find themselves in a rural house marked for death as the evil spirit of Bughuul continues to spread with frightening intensity.

“Sinister 2” opens August 21, the same late weekend that the inaugural film became a sleeper hit. Watch the first trailer below.
