We’re not the only big fans of Jordon Vogt-Roberts so it’s no surprise that his latest film “The Kings Of Summer” (which premiered at Sundance under its original title “Toy’s House“) is shaping up well for a successful run, garning a good amount of pre-release buzz with some strong promo clips. It’s gratifying confirmation of the talent we first saw in his short “Successful Alcoholics.” and with a bit of luck the movie will do well this summer, it’ll certainly be one of the more original offerings you catch at the cinema, as the brand new trailer demonstrates.
Although the film’s core undoubtedly belongs to the largely unknown leads (Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, Moises Arias), it’s a smart move on the part of the filmmakers to utilize a core of more recognizable supporting players like Nick Offerman, Alison Brie and Megan Mullally. The premise is relatively simple: two teens fed up with the constraints of living under their parents rules build their own house in a clearing in the woods, and are joined by an eccentric and unpredictable companion. The results, as we said out of Sundance, is a comedy that’ is at once “beautiful and dark and also funny.”
“The Kings Of Summer” arrive on May 31st. You can check out the trailer and a making-of featurette below.
