Watch: The Perfect Weekend Goes Very Wrong In Trailer For 'You're Next'

nullSo, is Adam Wingard‘s “You’re Next” a delayed horror masterpiece, or just simply a decent genre effort that has faced an unfortunate hold up? According to our review out of SXSW, more of the latter. Picked up out of TIFF by Lionsgate in 2011 after a strong reception, it quickly made its way to Fantastic Fest only to wind up sitting on the studio shelf. But the movie has been dusted off and is headed to theaters, and a new trailer has dropped to sell the scares.

The premise is simple: during a weekend wedding anniversary getaway, the Davison family is attacked by some mysterious, masked killers. And things get very, very nasty. Powered by the pretty great choice of Lou Reed‘s “Perfect Day,” it’s an effective little spot all around. And while it may not reinvent the wheel, as we wrote out of Austin, “There’s an earnestness to the entertainment in [the film] that is truly admirable, and at the end of the day it’s a super enjoyable way to spend an hour and a half.”

“You’re Next” opens on August 23rd.
