In advance of its spring release, a trailer has landed for Abbas Kiarostami‘s “Certified Copy.” You’ve already heard our praise for the film and we don’t really know what more we can add at this point except to say: go see it.
Starring Juliette Binoche and William Shimmel, the film—not unlike a hybrid of “Before Sunrise/Sunset” and “Scenes From A Marriage”—follows a couple through the Tuscan countryside as they discuss love, life and art amidst a relationship that has/is crumbling. Beautifully shot (the film practically doubles as a travelogue for Italy), the film is anchored by two solid turns by its leads (Binoche won Best Actress at Cannes for her performance) and though the exact nature of the relationship between the two characters is playfully never quite clear, it doesn’t diminish the power of the film.
“Certified Copy” hits theaters on March 11th and On dDmand on March 23rd. Trailer below (or in HD at Apple).
