While you likely won’t see Dustin Hoffman straight up abuse his young charges in "Boychoir," and the overall vibe is more feel-good than deliciously vicious, the general outline of the movie is not unlike "Whiplash": a young kid with talent struggles to find his way with a gruff teacher who expects nothing but the best. And a new trailer has dropped for the movie that trades jazz fills for perfectly blended baritones and sopranos.
Kathy Bates, Kevin McHale, Eddie Izzard, Josh Lucas and Garrett Wareing co-star in the movie that follows a young kid with an extraordinary gift for singing who lands himself in a prestigious music academy. And with the National Championships on the horizon, everyone must learn to get along and meet their potential to win the day. So yes, it’s all standard formula feel-good stuff, with less chair throwing than "Whiplash."
"Boychoir" arrives on April 3rd. Watch below.
