As studios, distributors, and filmmakers in general continue to look for refreshing new ways to have their work seen by as wide an audience as possible — whether it be on television, digital shorts, etc. — one of those potentially promising outlets seems to be the web series format. While we can't say that a particularly successful title sticks out to us at the moment (besides maybe the hilarious "Burning Love" created by Ken Marino), producer Bryan Singer looks to be offering up something that will surely entice the resident sci-fi enthusiasts.
The trailer for the Singer-produced webseries "H+" has arrived, and by the looks of it, it should offer up a dose of heady genre work. From a script by John Cabrera and Cosimo De Tommaso, "H+" is set in a future world where engaging technology has moved from being on smart phones and iPads to pushing itself further into our lives because of a new device from a high-tech company named Hplus Nano Teoranta. It's a widget that's capable of connecting both the human brain and the Internet in a way you've only imagined in your nightmares. When a virus is unleashed on the system, seemingly tearing apart the world as we know it, the series follows several survivors after the virus leads to the death of a third of the world’s population. Fans of Joss Whedon's work will certainly spot "Angel" and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" actor Alexis Denisof, while others will wonder how a web series managed to have such high production value — in fact, it received financial backing courtesy of Warner Bros.' digital company. The only question mark here is "Sorority Row" remake director Stewart Hendler at the helm, but despite some spotty acting in the trailer, everything looks good so far, so we'll give the dude a break.
The series looks to be a welcome slice of Philip K. Dick via every apocalypse tale ever, and we anticipate its debut on August 8th, with episode releases planned for every following Wednesday. We'll also have to wait and see how the reaction is out of of Comic-Con, as attendees of the convention will have nice screening to look forward to on Friday, July 13th. [Empire]
