Watch: Trailer For Danny Boyle's Stage Version Of 'Frankenstein'

While the sorely overlooked “127 Hours” is up for six Oscars this weekend, we’ve resigned ourselves to the fact that it will likely walk away empty-handed, but that blow will definitely be softened as, in just a few weeks, Danny Boyle will be unveiling his stage version of “Frankenstein” and it looks fantastic.

A trailer has now arrived for the production and it looks every bit as compelling as the concept suggests. Starring Johnny Lee Miller (Boyle’s “Trainspotting”) and Benedict Cumberbatch (”Atonement,” the BBC’s “Sherlock”), the stageplay will be broadcast live in HD via satellite on 375 screens across the globe on March 17, including 85 screens in the U.S. The U.K. and Europe will get another theatrical broadcast on March 24. The interesting twist: Miller and Cumberbatch will switch roles on the 24th. So if you catch it twice, you’ll see it once with Dr. Frankenstein played by Cumberbatch and the Monster by Miller, and then the roles will reverse a few days later.

As if that casting gambit wasn’t enough, British techno duo Underworld will be providing the music to this stageplay as well. Frankly, it all sounds terrifically exciting and we can’t wait to see what Boyle has put together, but the early signs are very, very promising. Check out the screening schedule to see when it plays near you. [via AICN]
