Looks like it’s going to be a very Ben Affleck Oscar season.
Following the very well received trailer for his upcoming directorial and starring effort “The Town,” another preview has landed, this time for the John Wells downsizing drama “The Company Men.” In the film Affleck gets the role of the (upper) middle class everyman whose life is changed when he loses his job at the age of 37.
Yeah, it does go a bit over the top toward the end, but we liked the general vibe of the trailer, and it does have a good handful of tender, truthful moments. Affleck stars along side a helluva cast including Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper, Kevin Costner and Maria Bello. And yes, there is a reason some of the scenes in the film look impossibly gorgeous; Roger Deakins handled cinematography duty.
The Weinstein Company will release the film on October 22nd. The official synopsis and trailer are after the jump:
Bobby Walker (Ben Affleck) is living the proverbial American dream: great job, beautiful family, shiny Porsche in the garage. When corporate downsizing leaves him and co-workers Phil Woodward (Chris Cooper) and Gene McClary (Tommy Lee Jones) jobless, the three men are forced to re-define their lives as men, husbands and fathers.
Bobby soon finds himself enduring enthusiastic life coaching, a job building houses for his brother-in-law (Kevin Costner) that does not play to his executive skill set, and perhaps — the realization that there is more to life than chasing the bigger, better deal. With humor, pathos, and keen observation, writer-director John Wells (the creator of “ER”) introduces us to the new realities of American life.
