Watch: Trailer For 'Emmanuel and the Truth About Fishes' Starring Jessica Biel & Kaya Scodelario

nullEmmanuel and the Truth About Fishes” made its debut at Sundance in January, and with Sundance London taking place next week, it seems like the perfect time to debut a new trailer for the film. Starring rising British star Kaya Scodelario (who replaced Rooney Mara), Jessica Biel, Frances O’Connor and Alfred Molina, the film tells the story of Scodelario’s Emmanuel, who becomes obsessed with a mysterious new neighbour who bears a resemblance to her dead mother.

Francesca Gregorini (“Tanner Hall”) wrote and directed the thriller, and when we caught it back at Sundance we gave it a C- grade for being a movie that fits almost perfectly into the mold of a cliché Sundance film. Maybe that won’t hold the film back as much in the UK though with Sundance London only being in its second year, and because lead actress Kaya Scodelario is someone better known to British audiences of a certain age for her role in the hit British version of “Skins.”

We’ve actually got high hopes for Scodelario, who’s turned in some fine performances in the past, and here she’s surrounded by a pretty impressive cast – we’d watch Molina in just about anything! From this writer’s perspective, having not yet seen the film, the trailer seems to be a fairly effective, atmospheric affair, and gives off a bit of a “Stoker” vibe. And personally speaking (because The Playlist staff are pretty split on that movie), if it comes anywhere close to the majesty of “Stoker” it will be well worth making the trip to Sundance London next Friday to see the film. The film has no distribution deals in place yet, but maybe a strong reaction from the Brits will help in that regard.
