Watch: Trailer For Halle Berry's Former Oscar Contender 'Frankie & Alice'

Frankie & Alice

Once upon a time, way, way back in 2010, Halle Berry was gunning for her second Oscar nomination (after winning for “Monster’s Ball“) with “Frankie & Alice.” At the time, it was an indie film without a major studio behind it, but that didn’t deter the actress, who was hoping her turn as a mentally ill woman would garner some attention. It didn’t. Now here we are four years later, with the movie quietly headed to theaters.

Co-starring Stellan Skarsgård, Chandra Wilson and Phylicia Rashad, and directed by Geoffrey Sax (“White Noise,” “Alex Rider: Stormbreaker“), the 1970s-set drama centers on a young woman with a personality disorder (Berry) who struggles to contain her racist alter-ego. And the first trailer reveals that there is nothing particularly subtle about this one, with Berry mostly flailing her arms and running around as her hidden personality rises to the surface when dramatically necessary. Sometimes, things sit on a shelf for a reason.

“Frankie & Alice” opens on April 4th. Watch below.
