It has been quite a few years since the last Stephen Chow film hit the United States (that would be the charming kids flick "CJ7"), and for those who have been missing his wackiness, here’s a little treat for you. A new English-subtitled trailer for Chow’s upcoming movie “Journey to the West” (or “Odyssey”) has recently debuted, and if you were wondering how Chow could top himself after his previous films “Shaolin Soccer” and “Kung Fu Hustle,” you might want to brace yourself for this.
It’s hard to describe exactly what is happening during the one-minute trailer, except that it’s utter madness. Featuring the typical wacky fight scenes that we have come to expect from a Stephen Chow film, we also see a whole slew of oddball characters such as a grotesque, man-sized pig and a monkey wielding a spear. While Chow does not star in the film, he did produce, write, and co-direct the movie (with Derek Kwok).
No word on when “Journey to the West” will actually be released in the US (there doesn't seem to be distributor just yet), but hopefully we’ll get the film at some point later this year. In the meantime, be sure to watch the insanity below.
