First announced in the fall of 2011, the Paul Walker-starring thriller, “Hours,” is finally seeing a release this winter. Set in New Orleans directly in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the film’s first official trailer has arrived online.
Helmed by “Final Destination 5” screenwriter Eric Heisserer in his directorial debut, the film focuses on Walker as a father fighting to keep his newborn daughter alive in a New Orleans hospital following the Katrina tragedy. The film seems to be set primarily in the hospital with some flashbacks to happier times in Walker’s life with his wife, played by Genesis Rodriguez.
While we would have assumed a Walker-starring Katrina film would have been a strictly VOD affair, the film will actually see a wide theatrical release courtesy of Lionsgate. Walker’s success rate with outings away from the “The Fast and the Furious” franchise have been spotty at best (remember “Vehicle 19”?) so we’ll see how this lands, but it’s probably a good thing he has “Fast & Furious 7” around the corner.
