When talk of “The Shining” documentary “Room 237” began, it made sense that someone would go out and make a documentary about all the crazy and wild theories that existed about the film. It’s such a rich and complex narrative that it’s easy to see how so much could be extracted from it. Now take the same documentary idea and apply it to a simpler film like “Ghostbusters.” How much do you think you could extract from that? Would you be surprised if I told you “Ghostbusters” could potentially be a social commentary on obesity, junk food, ADHD, sex and smoking? It’s the idea that Ivo Shandor (ha ha) is toying with in his documentary “Spook Central.”
The trailer for “Spook Central,” which you can view below, takes a long hard look at the classic “Ghostbusters” film and attempts to decipher a hidden meaning to the film that rests below its surface. While the trailer would suggest that the film takes itself seriously, it’s likely attempting to accomplish the opposite. Take, for example, the director Ivo Shandor. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Ivor Shandor was the architect who designed Dana’s apartment building in the original film. Is this all a clever ruse? Is this documentary truly a commentary on “Ghostbusters” or is it a commentary on how super analytical fans tend to be? Either way, it looks fascinating.
We won’t have to wait too long to find out what sort of movie this will be. Ivo reports that the documentary will be released in September. Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think. [Documentary Channel]
