Watch: Trailer For Sundance Winner & Cannes Entry 'Fruitvale Station'

Fruitvale StationCan you tell that The Weinstein Company is getting ready for Cannes? In the past week they’ve dropped trailers for “The Butler” and “August: Osage County” and that’s all in preparation of a big Cannes presentation for press following last year’s unveiling of “Django Unchained,” “The Master” and “Silver Linings Playbook.” What will be there? Well, that’s a Weinstein secret for now, but they’ll have plenty to celebrate in the festival as Sundance hit “Fruitvale Station” will unspool for international crowds.

The first trailer is here and it’s easy to see why this took the Grand Jury Prize and Dramatic Audience Award in Park City and landed director Ryan Coogler on our On The Rise: 12 Directors To Watch In 2013 list and star Michael B. Jordan on our 15 Breakout Artists To Watch From The 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Taking place over New Year’s Eve 2008, the film tells the tragic, heartbreaking true story of the final hours in the life of the 22-year-old Oscar Grant, who was pulled off a rowdy BART train at the Fruitvale station and was shot in the back by police, dying from his wounds. It looks like powerful stuff that should grab some attention in the Un Certain Regard slate at Cannes.

“Fruitvale Station” opens in limited release on July 12th.
