Before you get too excited, this is not a remake of John Boorman‘s 1967 film, but rather a Korean do-over of the 2010 French action flick “Point Blank,” which also as U.S. redo in the works too. But the singularly named director Chang got there first, and even more, his version is headed to Cannes Film Festival where it will play the midnight lineup (yes, they have a midnight lineup too). And the first trailer is here.
Starring Ryu Seung-ryong, Lee Jin-uk, Yu Jun-sang, and Kim Sung-ryoung, the story follows a former mercenary suspected of a murder he didn’t commit, who crosses paths with a man and his pregnant wife and…. well, it’s a bit knotty, so here’s the official synopsis:
Once a skilled mercenary, Yeo-hoon now leads a normal life. One day he goes on an errand and enters an office to discover a man murdered. The killers also attack and chase Yeo-hoon who is shot and wheeled off to a hospital. The murdered man is identified as a renowned corporate leader and Yeo-hoon becomes the prime suspect. He is admitted to the hospital where Tae-jun, who leads a happy life with his pregnant wife Hee-joo, works. While on night duty, Tae-jun saves Yeo-hoon from the killers. The next day, Hee-joo is kidnapped and Tae-jun receives a phone call demanding Yeo-hoon to be released from the hospital for her life. To save his wife, Tae-jun helps Yeo-hoon escape from the hospital and together they embark on a dangerous 36-hour pursuit.
Anyway, we weren’t exactly fans of the original, and while this seems to be keeping the same story, perhaps the execution will be better? We’ll know soon enough. Trailer, pics and poster below. [Twitch]
