A host of trailers have arrived in the last 24 hours, and it being the start of Cannes and one of the busier days of the year, we've done a little round-up of them for you below. First up, Bradley Cooper is sporting some sweet dreadlocks in the new trailer of the Dax Shepard-written action comedy, “Hit And Run,” which is co-directed by Shepard and David Palmer. The actor, currently part of the ensemble in NBC’s “Parenthood,” is no stranger to being behind the camera: he was previously behind 2010’s “Brother’s Justice,” again with Palmer as a co-director.
Shepard will lead an eclectic cast that includes Cooper, Kristen Bell, Tom Arnold, Michael Rosenbaum (“Smallville”), and David Koechner (“Anchorman”). “Hit And Run” will follow Charlie Bronson (Shepard), a getaway driver who jeopardizes his Witness Protection Plan identity in order to get his girlfriend (Bell) to Los Angeles, and is chased by the feds and his former gang, led by a dreadlocked Cooper.
It’ll be interesting to see how Shepard and Palmer will handle both the cast and the action, as it looks like the lead character’s previous driving experience will come into play. We're not overly enamored of the humor here, but we'll keep an open mind: “Hit And Run” is scheduled to hit theaters on August 24th. Watch the trailer below.
Next up, and also on the indie comedy side of the spectrum, there's "The Do-Deca Pentathlon" from the Duplass Brothers, helmers of "Baghead," "Cyrus" and this year's winning "Jeff Who Lives At Home." The film, which involves sibling rivals competing in their own athletic events, was actually shot before their more star-driven efforts, but has only just been completed, premiering at SXSW back in March. Sadly, if our review is to be believed, the film was something of a disappointment, lacking the charm or filmmaking nous of their more recent pictures. But see what you think for yourself below: Red Flag Releasing and Fox Searchlight are releasing the film on June 6th.
And then there's the latest music documentary from Jonathan Demme, "Neil Young Journeys." The film, the director's third about the artist (following 2006's "Neil Young: Heart of Gold" and 2009's "Neil Young Trunk Show"), documents Young's homecoming show at Toronto's Massey Hall in the summer of 2011. The trailer proabbly won't blow your mind, but it looks like a solid concert movie, especially for fans of Young or Demme. Sony Pictures Classics are releasing it on June 29th, and once again, you can check the trailer out below.
Oh, and finally, there's "The Good Doctor," a drama starring Orlando Bloom that you've likely never heard of, probably because it's a drama starring Orlando Bloom. The trailer doesn't look totally terrible (it does have Michael Peña and J.K. Simmons, after all), but it's been on the shelf for quite a while so we wouldn't hold our breath if we were you. It hits theaters on August 31st.
