Just kidding, that little twit King Joffrey got what he deserved and Vulture has put together a short greatest hits reel of Jack Gleeson’s performance as the King everyone loved to hate. And yes, all the well-deserved slaps are accounted for.
In an interview with EW, Gleeson talked about his prior knowledge of Joffrey’s demise saying, “I knew from Day 1. When I got the part, I read the first book. And before that, I googled the character summaries.” Echoing our own recapper, the actor told the magazine that he imagines “there will be a delight that the person tormenting their favorite characters is gone, but I would to think there’s a certain sadness at the loss of the delight people take in hating a character like Joffrey.” And yes, for all intents and purposes Gleeson is officially retired from acting but it’s not due to any jadedness or bitterness the actor said, “It’s just not what I want to do.” Good night, sweet prince.
For those familiar with the books but nonetheless suprised by the Purple Wedding happnening so soon after this season began, the episode’s helmer Alex Graves told THR the death of Joffrey , and the episode as a whole, “is completely intertwined with the end of the season,” adding that “Joffrey’s death affects the show through to the climax.” In other words folks, expect things to get even crazier and dangerous for your favorite characters in Westeros.
