Oh, so you thought the guy who made brain busting "Primer" in 2004 was going to go easy on his next effort out. Maybe a romantic comedy or a drama about a marriage falling apart…it is premiering at the Sundance Film Festival after all… But nah, Shane Carruth is ready to make you think hard once again.
The trailer for his upcoming and mysterious "Upstream Color" has dropped and….yeah, it's a head-scratcher. Barely a minute long, what it doesn't deliver in any plot, it more than makes up for in some beautiful imagery and an absolutely chilling, skin-crawling atmosphere. The official synopsis (not that you'll glean anything more out of it): A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the lifecycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.
Oh, and one more thing. It looks like the movie is coming fast and completely independently. It has now been slated for an April 5, 2013 release date. How, when, and where it's playing….we'll just have to wait and see…
