There are two kinds of Sundance films. There are those that earn instant buzz, get picked up, continue on the festival circuit and become a success. And there are the movies that get a lot of heat at Park City or feature some big stars, get bought up and then sit on the shelf or underperform. Unfortunately for "The Details," it has fallen into the latter category.
Directed by Jacob Aaron Estes ("Mean Creek"), starring Tobey Maguire and Elizabeth Banks, and picked up by The Weinstein Company for a ridiculous $8 million dollars, the movie certainly seems promising on paper. The dark comedy follows a cheating doctor in suburban Seattle and his attempts to rid his backyard of raccoons. Additionally, it features a strong supporting cast, including Laura Linney, Dennis Haysbert, Kerry Washington and Ray Liotta. But reception for the pic wasn't great, and in our review we noted that tonal inconsistencies of the already somewhat absurd premise keep it from taking off.
Anyway, the movie is finally coming to theaters in a limited release on November 2nd. Here are a bunch of new pics, and a pretty nifty unofficial trailer for the movie (via The Film Stage).
