This year not only marks the 15th anniversary of Stanley Kubrick’s passing but also the 50th anniversary of his peerless 1964 Cold War satire, “Dr. Strangelove.” What better way to celebrate the film than with a nearly twenty-minute little-seen promo reel for the film narrated by none other than the iconic auteur himself.
Split over two parts and recorded off the wall from the projection of the rare 35mm reel, the promo reel features some alternate takes not used in the final cut. While we’re not exactly sure what the reel’s original function was—maybe to placate investors since the satirical elements are somewhat downplayed—we’re glad to see this has surfaced online.
Watch the promo reel below and maybe clear some time later this evening to rewatch “Dr. Strangelove” too.
