Some people go to Europe for culture, others study, some on business and more just to get away. Charlie Countryman probably had some other plans on his list but then he meets Gabi, who has a violent ex-boyfriend. And to be with her he’s going to have to get rid of him. So begins “Charlie Countryman,” the directorial debut of commercials helmer Fredrik Bond that’s making its way to theaters in just a few short weeks. And today comes a pretty electric red band trailer to wake up your eyeballs.
Shia LaBeouf, Evan Rachel Wood, Mads Mikkelsen, Til Schweiger, Rupert Grint and Melissa Leo star in this one that seems to have energy for days. This latest spot shows off why you won’t be bringing your mom to this one with scenes of heart-swooning passion matched with blood, boobs and dudes getting beat up. And as the promo suggests, this is a movie where music, visuals and everything else collide all at once. But for our man in Sundance, it didn’t quite work. “Tonally adolescent, the film is enraptured with the emo-ness and ecstasy of love. It wants to yell from the rafters at all times. It will dive off cliffs in slow-motion to some fever-pitched post-rock song to demonstrate its commitment to your heart. Love may be all you need, but, sheesh, give it a rest for a second,” he wrote in his review.
But you can judge for yourself when “Charlie Countryman” arrives on November 15th. Watch below.
