One of the more welcome surprises of this past summer was the time-bending “X-Men: Days Of Future Past,” with its appealing combination of the best elements of both “X-Men: First Class” and the original trilogy featuring Professor X’s School for Gifted Youngsters. With the home video release only a couple of weeks away, the studio has released a small taste of the bonus features in the form of a deleted scene and a behind-the-scenes look.
Running just under a minute long, the short scene would have taken place after Magneto shoots Mystique in Paris and features Jennifer Lawrence, without the trademark blue makeup, catching up with her old pals, James McAvoy’s Xavier and Nicholas Hoult’s Beast. It’s a tense scene, underscored by the lingering hurt shared between Mystique and Xavier. It’s a quiet moment that would have given the Academy Award-winning Lawrence something else to do on screen, but with the busy plot mechanics, we understand why it had it go. After that, check out a quick featurette about Sunspot, played by Adan Canto.
Meanwhile, it’s already known that next year will bring about the extended so-called “Rogue Cut,” which contains the much talked about excised Rogue subplot, adding an extra 10 minutes to the film. We still wonder about the logic in holding back those deleted scenes when this year’s home video release will contain different deleted scenes. Why not just save it all for next year? Either way, credit goes to 20th Century Fox for finding more ways to make money in the ever-shrinking physical media market.
