Make no mistake about it, there are plenty of legitimate reasons to look forward to next month’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” There’s the huge cast that combines actors from both the original “X-Men” trilogy and the 2011 prequel and, of course, Bryan Singer is back in the director’s chair. But, would it be unreasonable to say that the marketing for the film has been a bit… uneven? First, there was the Empire Magazine character covers from earlier this year, which drew the ire of many X-Men fans, particularly with the reveal of Quicksilver with most people crying foul over how lame the character looked.
And now, various X-Men characters will begin appearing in Carl’s Jr./Hardees commercials. There’s already a commercial featuring Mystique (played by a stand-in, not Jennifer Lawrence) and now we get to see their latest commercial. Quicksilver (played by Evan Peters) is seen eating an X-tra Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit and we get to see his superpowers on full display… as he finishes his breakfast sandwich. Of course, these commercials are all in good fun, but if Fox really wants to promote the upcoming ‘X-Men’ film, they may want to choose a better character to do so. Fans don’t seem to like this guy so far.
The bigger gem, however, is the behind-the-scenes video which gives us a special glimpse into how these commercials were made. We get to learn about what the “overarching theme” of these commercials are (only superheroes can eat epic burgers), and we find out why Evan Peters likes his character so much (“because he’s really fast”). You also get to catch a glimpse of Colossus (played by Daniel Cudmore) as he chows down on a delicious Western X-Tra Bacon Thickburger. It’s OK if you’re getting a little hungry at this point, after all, Carl’s Jr./Hardees only makes food for superheroes. Superheroes don’t wind up with clogged arteries… right?
You can check out the commercial as well as the behind-the-scenes video below where you’ll also see a couple of new ‘Days of Future Past’ posters. The posters feature a few more side characters such as Blink (Fan Bingbing), Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page), Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), and the aforementioned Colossus. The posters are rather unspectacular but it drives the point home: there are a lot freaking characters in this movie.
You can see them all when “X-Men: Days of Future Past” comes out everyone on May 23rd. [Flicks And Bits/Collider]
